During the month of February I have been focusing on making pieces for my breadth portfolio. I had used a picture that I took and I’m painting it on a canvas, through this I am creating original art. As I was working on the butterfly painting my classmates collaborated with me and told me some suggestions on how to approach doing the background and the butterfly. She mentioned to just paint the butterfly without having a sketch to follow and I’m going to take a risk and try that. The other project I worked on was a pour painting, where we watered down acrylic paint and poured it on a canvas. I’m going to use my pour painting as a background for another project in the future.

During the month of January I worked on a lot of smaller projects. I created some pieces of original art when I thought of an idea to make rainbow jellyfish floating through the sky. I also went back to my summer project and but a background behind the picture of a heart with a dandelion. I'm still in progress with that piece because I believe that it isn't fully finished. With the heart piece I collaborated with my peers and one classmate told me to go over it in sharpie and then add some shadows behind the flowers with pencil or charcoal. I developed skill when I tried making the blue and pink flower with string and acrylic paint. The last 3 pieces that I worked on were all on the square boards. I started by just painting them and then communicated with my classmates to ask what I should paint on them. When on the last one I couldn't think of anything, the background looked like cotton candy and one of my teachers solved my problem by giving me the idea of a hot air balloon. I thought that it fit perfectly and liked the way that it turned out. This month of December brought many new challenges to me. For a couple weeks I've been focusing on one piece of artwork that I drew off a picture I took of my dog. This was something new to me, trying to draw from real life, because it is something that I hadn't really ever tried before. Through this I created original art and was able to take risks when trying to complete things like the eyes and nose. I did come across some problems, especially in the background and was able to solve them by collaborating with my classmates and having them give me some ideas of how to approach it. I have still not fully completed this piece, but I do hope to complete it and be happy with my work very soon.
This past month I have worked on a few projects, but haven't fully completed any yet. I started by creating a landscape painting of a river. I created original art because I was going off of a picture that I took when I was on my trip this past summer to Seattle, WA. I began to give up on that but I think that after collaborating with my peers and getting their insight on the piece I will have an easier time finishing it. After the painting I did another painting, however this was one I followed a bob ross video to complete it. This is another project that I haven't been able to finish. After I reflect on the piece I believe that I will be able to complete it, and it will turn out better if I dont rush. The last project that I worked on just started as a small sketch of the features of a face. I began to look back at it and try and complete it. Through this I developed skills, because I worked on things like noses, eyes and even drawing hair which were things that I hadn’t tried before. I’m really excited to keep working on this sketch and try and complete it to the best of my ability.
In the month of October my main focus was on blind contour as well as beginning a sketch. With my sketch I created original art because I went off a picture that I had taken this past summer when I was on vacation. I’m trying to sketch the picture and once I’ve finished I’m going to color it in with colored pencil. The blind contour has helped me develop a new skill. It taught me how to draw what I was seeing rather than what I thought I was seeing. I have collaborated with my class as well as my teacher this past month and discovered that I prefer to draw landscapes and I’m going to try and focus in on creating those with images that I have took on my trips across the country and the world.
During the first month of school we have already gone over so many of our artistic behaviors. The first project we worked on was drawing selfies using data. This project was very interesting to be because we took an interesting approach on it by showing different things about us like our age, where we were born, what time we go to bed and so much more. After this we moved on to creating a hive! Still sticking on the topic of expressing who we are we all drew seven pictures that show our lives. I drew things like the beach and a dog paw because those are two things that I love. I was able to communicate through my work with this project and have the class reflect on my work with me. The last project we had worked on this month was a still-life drawing where we focused on the negative space in the picture. I drew objects like chairs and stands and then filled in the background with maps to draw the attention to the negative space. I had to collaborate with the class after I had created my outline and everyone suggested that I add more line variation and I really liked the way that it turned out. So far this year this is I believe is my most powerful piece and I am very confident in it. |
